Welcome to Reception!
Miss Foster, Miss Preston, Mrs Hawley and Miss Wallis are our Reception teachers.
During Term 3 we will be learning about What makes a Hero?
Over the next couple of weeks the children will be turning themselves into superheroes by creating their own special costumes and thinking about their special power! Towards the end of the term we will explore real life heroes/people who help us. We will be having a visit from a Firefighter to learn about their special job. If you are in a similar profession e.g. (dentist/dental nurse, police, doctor, nurse etc) and you have got the time we would love to arrange some more visits/talks. If you would like to share your special job with the children please speak to your child’s class teacher to arrange a visit. You can find out more information about our topic here: Reception Term 3 Overview
If you were unable to come to our Reception Parent Presentation on 25th September, you can download a copy of the slides here:
If you have any questions about the presentation, slides or Reception, please speak to your child’s teacher or email airballoonhillp@bristol-schools.uk

Please complete a reading activity with your child at least three times a week. This can be a mixture of reviewing sounds, practising the common exception words or reading their book. When your child is reading their decodable book please encourage them to track each word with their magic finger.
If you have any questions regarding reading or any specific questions regarding your child’s progress please talk to their class teacher.
Reception Baseline Assessment
During Term 1, we carried out the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). This is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your children’s early literacy, communication, language and maths skills.
The RBA provides an opportunity for your child to have valuable one-to one with their teacher/EYP at an early stage, so that they can get to know your child better. Alongside our normal baseline practices this will provide a helpful snapshot to know where children are in their learning journey and to inform our teaching in the first term.
You do not need to do anything to prepare your child for the assessment. Your child is unlikely to even know that they are doing an assessment when they are completing tasks and activities.
Please see the attached leaflet for further information. Reception Baseline Parent Guide
Last term we were learning about Floella Benjamin:
