The School Day

Since September 2020, our school day has changed slightly with the Covid-19 restrictions. Please read the details below.

Since September, there have been some really important routines that everyone needs to follow. For parents and carers, this is mainly linked to dropping children off in the morning and picking them up at the end of the day. These changes allow us to help keep everyone safe.

Entrance/exit gates to the school site
There are clear entrances to the school site and clear exits. Most of these will be one-way only.

Entrance Gates

  • Top Playground Gate (the gate nearest Space Cadets)
  • Hill Side Gate (a new gate, down the lane, near Hillside pre-school)

Exit Gates

  • Lower Side Gate (the gate, down the lane, near the ball court)
  • Upper Side Gate (the gate, down the lane, by the climbing frame)

The Main Gate (leading to the school office) will continue to be an entrance and exit gate

No adults permitted entry into the school building

Adults will still be able to come into the school for appointments and meetings but these will need to be arranged in advance. The office will still be available through the main entrance foyer but the doors leading into the school building will be closed.

Here is a summary of the drop-off/pick-up locations for each year group along with the nearest entrance gate and timings for the start and end of the day. Please refer to the school map to work out the best exit gate to use when leaving the site or making your way to a second drop-off/pick-up location.

  • A senior leader will signal when it is time for the children to come into the school building in the mornings. Teaching staff will greet the children in their classrooms*.
  • Teaching staff will lead their class out to their pick-up location at the end of the day where they will be available to speak to parents and carers.
  • Adults will not be permitted to cut through the school building during these times of the day.
  • One-way systems around the site will continue to be in place for adults to use.
  • We recommend that older siblings are dropped off first.
  • Year 5 and Year 6 children are encouraged to come onto the site on their own.
  • Year 6 children are welcome to arrive at the front playground (just outside the school office) for 8:30am when they will be let in to wait on the Year 6 terrace.
  • If children are late being collected, the class teacher will contact parents/carers to discuss this and instruct them to report to the office once they have arrived to collect their child(ren).
  • If any timings or entrance locations are difficult for families to manage, please speak to a senior leader who will be able to help you find a practical solution.

*For the first couple of days of term, teachers will be out in the playgrounds to welcome the children as they get used to their new drop-off and pick-up locations.

We do ask that children arrive as close to their arrival time as possible – not too early and not late – so as to avoid any waiting area becoming over-crowded.

Please do take the time to familiarise yourself with these timings and locations as well as the map which shows all of the gates.

Reception parents will use a one-way exit loop around the building to access their nearest exit gate.
Year 6 children will be the only year group permitted to walk through the main foyer to reach their classes. Please note that parents will not be permitted to walk with them to their class and must say goodbye at the office entrance.

Please also be advised that a small section of Hillside Road (outside Air Balloon Surgery) will be closed between 12th July 2021 and 11th July 2022, whilst building work is carried out on the corner. The road may not be closed permanently, however please be prepared for traffic disruption over the next 12 months and seek an alternative route to school – ensuring you leave extra time to take the longer diversion.

Do you need extended hours?

Our breakfast and after school clubs are still running – hours 7.30 am to 6.00pm – To find out more about Space Cadets : Click Here
