Year 4 – Phoenix

Take a look at our work and displays. Our Working walls help us learn – the content builds as the term progresses. See how our skills develop over the course of the academic year.

Music History

Phoenix class have been studying different pieces from music history.

Last week they listened to The Firebird by Stravinsky. The children wrote poems and drew pictures of the firebird whilst they listened to the music. We also talked about the instruments they saw and heard.

The composer (Stravinsky) was inspired after reading a Russian folk tale about a glowing red and orange bird. You can watch a performance of part of the piece here:

This week the children have been listening to a minimalist piece called Changes by composer John Pitts. They had a go at composing their own minimalist patterns in response to the music.
